It’s no secret by now that I love to eat. On my recent visit to New York, I couldn’t waste an opportunity to indulge in one of my absolute favorite Italian eateries, Eataly NYC.
This Italian market and eatery in the Flatiron District is oozing with European charm (I haven’t been to Europe, but I’m making an educated guess, ok?). The street-level market has every Italian treat you can imagine: cheeses, meats, chocolate, fruit preserves, espresso, gelato, beer, wine and more.
I love wandering through the market just to take in the atmosphere–it’s always bustling and lively–but I typically don’t leave without either an espresso or some gelato (ok who am I kidding…both).
Another wonderful addition to Eataly is their recently opened rooftop birreria (that’s Italian for pub…sort of) aptly named La Birreria. They have an extensive selection of imported draft beers, house-brewed craft beers, and even more bottled.It’s a full-service restaurant, but my friend and I arrived late in the afternoon on a Monday so we just ordered a formaggi plate and a some salumi. Our cheese selections included a lovely ricotta fresca, provolone mandarone, and gorgonzola dolce. All three were exquisite and came served with honey. Our meat plate was coppa, an emilia-romagna style pork shoulder. Bread is complimentary.
The tables quickly filled up as the evening went on; if you go for dinner be sure to make a reservation, otherwise it could be difficult to get a table.
