I left my heart in San Francisco. Again.

Baker Beach and San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge.

My aim is to keep this post short and sweet, much like my recent visit with San Francisco.  I’m finding it difficult to put into words the emotions elicited by the incredibly sunny and love-filled week I just had, so I fear that any written explanation I attempt will inevitably fall short.

What I can say with unwavering certainty is that each time I return to San Francisco, it captivates me a little more.  I discover new nooks and crannies that I hadn’t known before and I start to see the potential for a life in this eclectic city.

My life of travel is far from over, to be sure…but if I ever found myself back in the US, there’s a good chance I might just wind up in the city by the bay, even in favor of my beloved New York.

Anyway, on to the highlights of my week.

Where We Ate

Pluto’s – Made-to-order, enormous salads in the Marina.  I got the “side salad” and ate it for two meals.

Delarosa – Modern Italian eatery in the Marina.  Excellent food and open late.

Mau – Vietnamese in the Mission.  Delicious pho big enough to share.

Barrel House Tavern – Beautiful waterfront restaurant in Sausalito, a perfect way to end a day of cycling.

Where We Drank

California Wine Merchant – Retail wine store and wine bar in the Marina.  Excellent wine selection but a bit pricey.

The Tonga Room – Kitschy bar located in the Fairmont Hotel.  Like the Rainforest Cafe, but for adults only.

Tunnel Top – Cozy bar with a great beer selection and excellent people watching.

What We Did

Yoga at Laughing Lotus Yoga SF – My beautiful friend Dana is an amazing teacher, I highly recommend her classes!

Biked across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito with Blazing Saddles – Find them at Fisherman’s Wharf; a full-day bike rental costs $36.

Visited Coit Tower – Incredible views from the top of Telegraph Hill, even on a less-than-clear day.

Had an afternoon picnic in Golden Gate Park and Baker Beach – This day was, in a word, perfect.

Everywhere you look, there’s a heart…a hand to hold onto!

Have you been to San Francisco?  Does it make your list of favorite US cities?
