Greetings from the urban sprawl that is Mexico City, and happy Friday, friends!
My week in New York came to an end today as I boarded my flight bound for Mexico. It was a great one, as always, and since I had the privilege of showing around a first-timer (the Swede, in case you were wondering) the week just had to include stops to see some of the most famous New York City icons.
The weather was working in our favor and allowed us to do much of our sightseeing by foot; this also resulted in a few sunburns, some sore feet and a mild case of travel fatigue, but all in all it was worth the trouble. I always appreciate the chance to get exercise without dedicating an hour to the gym, and you see so much more when you’re not, well, traveling underground.
So, which New York City icons were we able to check off the list? The itinerary I’d dreamed up in my head was a pretty ambitious one, so we actually managed to tackle quite a few big ticket items in one short week, including (but not limited to): Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Union Square, Grand Central Station, the Brooklyn Bridge, Chinatown, Chelsea Market, the High Line, the financial district, Battery Park, the Statue of Liberty (by way of the Staten Island Ferry) and the Brooklyn Brewery. Oh, and we even squeezed in a Broadway show.
Just thinking about our busy week makes me tired…but maybe that’s because I haven’t yet physically recovered. And despite a few minor setbacks (losing the entire contents of my external hard drive comes to mind) it really was a great week. I especially enjoyed the opportunity to photograph New York at one of the prettiest times of the year.
Here are a few of my favorite snaps of those New York City icons we all know and love. Many more stories and travel tips to follow!
What are some of your favorite New York City icons to see when you’re in the city? Have a wonderful weekend!
