**THIS IS NOT A SPONSORED POST! I was not compensated in ANY WAY to write the words you are about to read, this is just a company I fully support and whose activism and causes I believe in.
That said, allow me to introduce you to Pura Vida Bracelets.
The concept…
If you’re not familiar with the term “pura vida,” this simple phrase translates from Spanish to “pure life” and is a guiding principle in the Central American nation of Costa Rica. “Pura vida” is about living life slowly and simply, about living life to the fullest with no regrets and taking nothing for granted.
The story…
The idea for the company came about when two Southern Californians, Griffin Thall and Paul Goodman, took a 5-week trip to Costa Rica post-college and developed a profound respect and admiration for the “pura vida” lifestyle and the people they encountered who embodied the idea.
On a trip to a remote part of the country, they met two men named Jorge and Joaquin who were selling bracelets on the street. They felt the simple, hand-made bracelets captured the essence of the Costa Rican mantra of “pura vida.”
They were dismayed, however, to learn that the two men were living in a single room shared by several other members of their family. They asked if they would be interested in making 400 bracelets to take back to the United States with them, and the men eagerly obliged, happy to make such a big sale.
Once back in San Diego, they decided to sell the bracelets at a local boutique–the bracelets quickly sold out, and a new business relationship was soon established with Jorge and Joaquin.
Demand for the bracelets grew so quickly that they were able to give the men enough business to move into their own comfortable home and hire an additional 65 jewelers to work alongside them. Pura Vida Bracelets are now sold in 2,500+ shops worldwide and have become a movement and a reminder to live a “pure life.”
Giving back…
In addition to providing full-time employment and fair wages to artisans in Costa Rica, Pura Vida gives back to over 190 charity organizations through sales of charity-specific bracelets.
The organizations they support cover a wide range of causes from medical conditions like AIDS/HIV and muscular dystrophy to environmental causes like marine debris cleanup to children and education causes like the After-School All-Stars program. You can even submit a charity of your choice to be added to the list.
Getting involved…
If you’ve read this far, you’re probably still wondering why I’m writing this post.
When I discovered Pura Vida Bracelets, I felt like it was something I wanted to get involved in. I haven’t yet been to Costa Rica to appreciate “pura vida” in its native environment, but my travels are taking me there very soon and the longer I travel the more I come to appreciate a simple life and strive to live in this way–free from regrets, free from worry, living with gratitude and taking nothing for granted–so I have no doubt I will identify deeply with this sentiment as soon as I step foot in Costa Rica in a few weeks.
Additionally, as I’ve mentioned before, I am a major advocate of charitable giving and have the utmost respect for companies that not only make it one of their principle aims, but do so in a way that’s sustainable.
Worldwide Rep Program…
I soon learned that Pura Vida Bracelets offers a worldwide rep program where people like myself can promote the brand and earn a small amount of commission for every sale generated. As you probably know by now, I’m working toward building a lifestyle that is location independent, and working as a representative for Pura Vida Bracelets has no geographical requirement.
I applied and was recently accepted to the program, which is why you’ll now see a permanent link to their online shop in my sidebar.
